Here at Our Lady & St Joseph Catholic Academy, we believe it is very important for ALL children to have a voice and feel as though their views and opinions count.

In the Autumn Term, each class holds an election to find their class representatives for the learning council.

Each councillor has to ensure that the views of all of the children in their class are heard. They collect the ideas and suggestions mainly through the weekly ‘Learning Meetings’ which they chair and minute. They particularly focus on the teaching and learning that takes place and the Catholic Life of the school, and how we can continue to improve them.

The whole learning council then meet each half term to collect the suggestions and set challenges for each class to attempt as part of their learning for each half term. At the end of each half term the ‘Agents of Ambition’ carry out learning walks to collect evidence which helps them to decide which class has most successfully risen to the challenge. This is shared with the rest of the school in a special assembly.
